The PowerEdge R770/670 with the latest 86-core 6th Gen Intel Xeon SP processor delivers 62% greater HPL performance than the previous generation R760 with 64-core 5th Gen Intel Xeon SP processor, and 96% greater HPL performance than the R760 with 56-core 4th Gen Intel Xeon SP processor.
Benchmarking Overview: SpecCPU, HPL, Stream
We ran three benchmarks—SPEC CPU, High-Performance Linpack (HPL), and STREAM—to compare the performance of the 5th Generation Intel Xeon R760 and 6th Generation R770 processors. We present the SPEC CPU INT Rate Base metric, which focuses on integer throughput, providing a metric called SPECrate. This metric indicates how many integer tasks a system can complete in a given amount of time. HPL is measured in Gflops, or floating-point operations per second, which assesses overall computing power. STREAM measures memory throughput in MB/s.

Testing was conducted at Dell Solutions Performance Analysis (SPA) labs in February 2025. The following generational comparisons represent common Intel processor configurations for R770 and R760 customers:

R770/670 CPU Config

R760 CPU Config

Intel 6787P, 86C, 350W, 2.0GHz

Intel 8592+, 64C, 3.9GHz

Intel 6767P, 64C, 350W, 2.4GHz

Intel 8480+, 56C, 3.8GHz
