The new line of single-socket server Dell Poweredge R360 and Dell Poweredge T360 processors is Intel Xeon E-24xx. The processors use the LGA 1700 socket - the one that appeared two generations of Intel Core ago. The processors are manufactured using the Intel 7 (10nm) process technology, have from 4 to 8 cores, a dual-channel DDR5 memory controller, two DDR5-4800 UDIMM ECC modules per channel, a total of four memory slots with a total capacity of up to 128 GB. The processors support 16 PCIe Gen 5 lanes and 4 PCIe Gen 4 lanes. The chipset adds PCIe lanes, USB and SATA ports. There are eight denominations in the Xeon E-24xx line. All of them, except for the youngest, support Hyper-Threading, providing two threads per core. The base frequency of the cores is from 2.6 to 3.5 GHz, Turbo Boost can push the core clock frequency to 4.5 - 5.6 GHz.

In terms of price-performance per core, Xeon E-24xx are more attractive than Xeon SP 4th processors Gen - because their clock speeds are much higher. Typical applications of younger servers are more sensitive to clock speed than to the amount of memory or memory and I/O bandwidth. In addition, single-processor Xeon E satellite platforms are much cheaper than any Xeon SP platforms. It is good if the server owner has enough eight physical cores.
The base frequency of the Xeon E-22xx generation of processors reached 4.0 GHz, Xeon E-23xx – 3.7 GHz. In Xeon E-24xx - a maximum of 3.5 GHz. Everything is lower and lower. Of course, you can’t compare processors by a single parameter, especially different architectures, but you can’t fool physics. A high clock frequency directly affects the performance of single-threaded applications: accounting programs, web services, database servers, design, network monitoring programs, etc. On the contrary, users of entry-level servers will most likely not feel the benefits of DDR5 and PCIe Gen5.
